With about six weeks under your slightly bigger belt of eating, drinking, and being merry… it’s time to buckle down and get healthy, starting next year of course (Wink! Wink!).  So what is it that you’re trying to eliminate?  Sugar, wheat, dairy… all of the above?  Going without these things can have tremendous health benefits and can still be tasty, we promise!

Pull-Apart Dinner Rolls – gluten free

The Best Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies – gluten free

Italian Chicken Sausage and Veggies – yes, most sausage has gluten, but not this one!

White Chocolate Almond Raspberry Cake – gluten free

3 Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies – gluten and dairy free

The Creamiest Vegan Mac and Cheese – dairy free

Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie – dairy free

Molten Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake – Keto (low-carb, no sugar)

Pull-Apart Cinnamon Rolls – no gluten here

Ooey Gooey Butter Cake – Keto

The above suggestions are treats, but if you want to get super serious about your health, get outside on your grill and sizzle up some lean meats and veggies.  Heck you can even grill up some peaches for a sweet surprise.  See?… living outside is better (and better for you)!

 

 

Recipe of the Month: Healthy Holiday Dishes

Thanksgiving came and went, it did its damage and we have the extra pounds to prove it.  The average person gains between 7 and 10 pounds between turkey day and New Year’s Eve, so we thought we would serve up healthy holiday dishes for this month’s featured recipes!  These are dishes that you can indulge in without the guilt.

Mulled Wine Granita 

Low-fat Eggnog 

Sweet Potato Skins 

Avocado-Feta Dip 

Greek Layered Dip and Pita Chips (or you could substitute for cucumber slices and it’s even healthier)

Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Pomegranate and Hazelnut 

Warm Spinach Salad

Winter Fruit Salad

Mushroom Stuffed Pork Tenderloin  

Curried Sweet Potato Puree 

Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Honey and Cinnamon 

Chocolate Avocado Pudding (we saved the best for last, trust us, it’s a gift in itself)

Recipe of the Month: Healthy Through the Holidays

‘Tis the season for eggnog, Aunt Betty’s famous mashed potatoes, sugar cookies, and fruit cake (for the 3 people on earth that actually like fruit cake) … it’s also the season for gaining weight.  The average person gains 7-10 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.  So how can we have our cake and eat it too?  Well we could get in a quick workout each day, but the calories going out rarely exceed the calories going in.  For instance, you can jog on a treadmill for 30 minutes and only have 3 oz of a cocktail or spin on a bike for 30 minutes and you can only enjoy 3/4 cup of egg nog or go on a walk for an hour and that will score you 2 buttered rolls on your plate.  So we thought we would come up with some recipes that are still festive, but won’t pack on the pounds.

 

December Recipe of the Month

 

Deviled Eggs

12 – hard-boiled eggs

24 Tablespoons – Green Chili hummus

Peel eggs, slice in half, dump out yolk, scoop 1 Tablespoon into each half, keep chilled and serve!
