A Shining Star in Texas

May 28, 2021 Awards

The Texas Association of Builders (TAB) announced the 2021 Star Awards finalists. For the third straight year, the program witnessed a record breaking 720 entries within the 162 elite categories. Projects and nominations were submitted by 120 companies from 60 cities across the state.

This year’s record number of entries once again showcases the exceptional talent within the residential construction industry in Texas. Our great State should be proud of its builders, remodelers, architects, and designers as well as its sales, marketing, and construction professionals. It is an honor to be recognized as a finalist among this group of distinguished leaders.

Texas Custom Patios is excited to be amongst such a stellar group of builders and remodelers. We are pleased to announce we placed as a finalist for three different projects!

TAB launched the Star Awards program in 1992 and it remains the only statewide tribute to excellence in the homebuilding industry. For the first time in program history, the Star Awards were judged virtually. The out-of-state panelists were tasked with selecting the best of the best by reviewing and evaluating the entries.

Winners will be announced on July 15, the last day of the Sunbelt Builders Show™.

A Cozy Outdoor Living Space

December 1, 2020 Outdoor Living

The sweaty summer days are behind us (we think), and cooler days are ahead! So as fast as we have forgotten how hot it can be, most of us will crave a cozy fire, super soft blanket and the feeling that the holidays are here!

Creating a winter wonderland is easy with a few essentials, we hope you keep warm and safe this season!

Tip #1 – Bring the Heat

If you don’t have a built-in fireplace or pit like the picture below, adding some heat to your area can be easy and affordable. Whether it be a propane fire pit, free-standing heater or classic wood burning fire feature, adding warmth is a necessity in keeping comfortable.

Tip #2 – Lighting

You will get a little lighting from the flames in Tip #1, but with the days being shorter through the winter, you’ll need to shed a little light on things. String lights are a great option not only for a source of light, but to create a warm ambiance! Candles also create a cozy setting for relaxing.

Tip #3 – Cozy Seating

The lighting can be just right and very relaxing, but if you’re sitting in something uncomfortable the whole experience can get ruined (just ask Goldilocks). There are so many options when it comes to outdoor furniture, try something that allows for deep seating and plush pillows… something where you can snuggle and sink. For added warmth and decor, include an oversized throw blanket… you’ll never want to go inside.

Tip #4 – Flooring

Whether your patio has nice flooring or not, consider adding an outdoor rug to warm things up and add some style. Today’s outdoor rugs are weather tolerant and come in a wide variety of sizes, colors and patterns. So many choices makes it easy to find a rug that blends with your overall outdoor living style.

If you’re gathered with family or having alone time with a good book, enjoy your surroundings and happy holidays!

Upgrade Your Outdoor Living

October 30, 2019 Outdoor Living, Patio Design

Do you love your home, but your backyard needs a facelift?   There’s a lot you can do no matter the space. Below is an older home… the owners wanted a makeover for their existing patio, so that’s exactly what we did, and now it’s perfect for entertaining. They now have something they are proud to call home.

Let’s take a closer look, below is the before image.

Before

The lack of a patio cover didn’t keep this family from using their backyard, but they were desperate for some shade.

After

This new space gives the family a great area to entertain or to just hang out and enjoy the day with much needed shade and fans. For the cooler months a gas fire pit was added to keep things cozy.

The home had a wall of windows with French doors, so by adding the covered area this helped extend the living room into an indoor-outdoor living style.

The flooring is a herringbone pattern brick floor. It is the perfect accent for this 558 square foot patio cover. We needed to address a drainage issue, so installed a French drain system with black gravel. This not only serves the purpose of the drainage, but helps define the patio space.

We added an outdoor kitchen along the side wall. We had to build out a brick wall to go behind the grill. This kitchen has just enough space for prepping and serving meals and is equipped with plenty of doors and drawers for storage. The vent hood is covered with the same granite as the counter.

The stained beams on the ceiling really pop against the light paint of the tongue and groove. The hardie wrapped columns keep the style of the new space in line with the home. What was once an average patio is now a floor-to-ceiling stunner!

Our Customers Love Us

Texas Custom Patios was a pleasure to work with from first call to final detail on our patio cover and flooring. Everyone we worked with — office personnel on scheduling, crews on fast and quality work, and Steven helping with design ideas and scheduling and issue resolution — were all what contracting should be. We had been looking at our odd roofline, chimney location and numerous angles for over 10 years and received numerous quotes and estimates that just didn’t work or the contractors flatly said they couldn’t do what we were looking for . . . until Steven and TCP arrived and did exactly what we wanted (and more) on time, on budget, no hassle. We love our new space and receive many compliments on the look and functionality of the space and design. We would love to have TCP and Steven do another project for us and we recommend them to anyone.
