Project of the Month: June 2023

June 8, 2023 Project of the Month

This home is situated on a very large lot, and the client wanted a large outdoor living space to host family and friends. This pool house was designed with that in mind—a space to hang out, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. A 950-square-foot freestanding pool house with a bathroom, kitchen, and fireplace was built. There are so many features to this space that is made to look original to the home.

The pool house is finished in stucco to match the home and has stone accents to complement it. This was designed with arched openings that also have drop screens embedded in the columns so the space can be closed off to keep bugs and mosquitos at bay.

The flooring throughout the space is a Versailles pattern Light travertine tile from QDI. The pool decking was also upgraded to match the tile with the paver version of the travertine. The coping on the pool was replaced to match as well, all from QDI

The bathroom has Ivory Beige wall tile from Distinct Stone Solutions, a glass mosaic accent Lux Aqua Blue Bazaar from QDI. The shower floor is small travertine tiles in Nysa, also from QDI

This outdoor kitchen has it all. The centerpiece is an RCS 38” Cutlass Pro grill, side burner, and outdoor fridge. Other appliances include Firemagic soft-close doors and drawers to allow for ample storage space, a Firemagic vent hood, and a Hoshizaki ice maker from S.T.E.D. The countertops are Cosmos granite from Daltile, and the wall behind the grill and above the vent hood is Glass Capri Riverstone Ivory from Floor and Décor. The stone fascia is Rhinestone Chop thin veneer from Legends Architectural Stone

The fireplace is a 42” gas insert with herringbone from Perfection Fireplace. The stone is the same as the kitchen, with Rhinestone Chop thin veneer. The window seats on either side of the fireplace are an excellent addition to the space.

The ceiling is Woodtone American Nut Brown with cedar beams that are stained a darker color to make it pop. The space is large enough to accommodate a pool table. Surround sound speakers were installed.

This pool house and complete bathroom renovation are exactly what the homeowner needed to complete their backyard.

The perfect complement to your pool

October 18, 2022 Outdoor Living

If you’re dreaming of a cooler summer next year, now is the time to plan on complementing your pool. Although the differences between a pool house and a cabana may not seem obvious initially, both additions to your patio serve different purposes to make your summers great.

Cabana Basics

Traditionally, cabanas are open structures made for shade and relaxation by the pool. Like a free-standing patio cover, cabanas can provide great backyard views and can be upgraded to feature a bar or an open kitchen. Privacy walls and screens can also be added to add seclusion to your backyard. With the right outdoor furniture and appliances, your cabana can become an outdoor oasis on those hot summer days.

Pool House Basics

Types of pool houses can vary depending on the amenities, but many pool houses are four-sided structures with plenty of usage outside of the pool. Some pool houses feature bathrooms, showers, and storage for pool equipment and toys. Other options can feature kitchens stacked with appliances like sinks and refrigerators as well as extra bedrooms, effectively turning it into a guest house. With these extra amenities, a pool house is something that can truly be used year-round.

Whether you opt for the pool house or the cabana, both additions can transform your backyard into a summer destination.
