Project of the Month: June 2023

June 8, 2023 Project of the Month

This home is situated on a very large lot, and the client wanted a large outdoor living space to host family and friends. This pool house was designed with that in mind—a space to hang out, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. A 950-square-foot freestanding pool house with a bathroom, kitchen, and fireplace was built. There are so many features to this space that is made to look original to the home.

The pool house is finished in stucco to match the home and has stone accents to complement it. This was designed with arched openings that also have drop screens embedded in the columns so the space can be closed off to keep bugs and mosquitos at bay.

The flooring throughout the space is a Versailles pattern Light travertine tile from QDI. The pool decking was also upgraded to match the tile with the paver version of the travertine. The coping on the pool was replaced to match as well, all from QDI

The bathroom has Ivory Beige wall tile from Distinct Stone Solutions, a glass mosaic accent Lux Aqua Blue Bazaar from QDI. The shower floor is small travertine tiles in Nysa, also from QDI

This outdoor kitchen has it all. The centerpiece is an RCS 38” Cutlass Pro grill, side burner, and outdoor fridge. Other appliances include Firemagic soft-close doors and drawers to allow for ample storage space, a Firemagic vent hood, and a Hoshizaki ice maker from S.T.E.D. The countertops are Cosmos granite from Daltile, and the wall behind the grill and above the vent hood is Glass Capri Riverstone Ivory from Floor and Décor. The stone fascia is Rhinestone Chop thin veneer from Legends Architectural Stone

The fireplace is a 42” gas insert with herringbone from Perfection Fireplace. The stone is the same as the kitchen, with Rhinestone Chop thin veneer. The window seats on either side of the fireplace are an excellent addition to the space.

The ceiling is Woodtone American Nut Brown with cedar beams that are stained a darker color to make it pop. The space is large enough to accommodate a pool table. Surround sound speakers were installed.

This pool house and complete bathroom renovation are exactly what the homeowner needed to complete their backyard.

Project of the Month: May 2023

May 1, 2023 Project of the Month

This home had a decent-sized covered area along the back of their home with a low-pitched roof. Our finished product is a vaulted gable roof with an outdoor kitchen. It is now about 600 square feet and looks like it was built originally for the home.

We extended the patio out to the edge of the deeper side of the home to give the family a much larger area. The new space has three distinct areas – an outdoor kitchen, a sitting area, and a dining area. The outdoor space has two large fans, and gas carriage lights on the columns were installed.

The dining area has a custom bench that also serves as a firewood holder for the fire pit in the yard, and the flooring is a porcelain tile. The living area is in the center, with a space to cuddle up and enjoy the outdoors. The vaulted ceiling is Woodtone West Coast IPA pre-stained tongue and groove, giving the area a wide-open feel.

The outdoor kitchen outfitted with a black soapstone counter and backsplash behind the grill from Dal-Tile, is situated at the end of the space with close access to the home. The raised bar top allows for extra seating, and the kitchen has a sink, fridge, storage, wine fridge, ice maker, 32” RCS grill, and side burner. A vent hood over the grill was placed to control the amount of smoke while using the grill. All appliances are from Cunningham Gas. The columns and kitchen fascia are painted brick to match the home.

This backyard was transformed into a beautiful space for hanging out year-round.

Project of the Month: March 2023

March 1, 2023 Project of the Month

This project added a 1200-square-foot patio cover, a new composite deck, an outdoor kitchen, and a fireplace equipped with drop screens to close off the entire space. They already had a minimal covered space and an extended deck, but we created a much larger space with an area for their hot tub.

The covered patio now extends out along their driveway and the back of their home, creating an L-shaped cover with lots of space for outdoor living. The ceiling is 1X6 pre-stained Texas Honey Brown tongue and groove. All of the flooring is Ivory Beige Versailles pattern travertine from QDI. The columns and fascia of the kitchen and fireplace are full stone. Motorized DropShade screens were installed to keep those pesky bugs away.

This kitchen has an RCS brand grill, an outdoor fridge, a sink, and lots of storage. Granite for the kitchen is New Venetian Gold from MS International. Having a bar top island is the perfect way to create additional seating and serving space. This outdoor kitchen is truly perfect for outdoor cooking.

The fireplace is a masonry wood-burning fireplace with a stone hearth and extended seating wall, with a mantle made of stained cedar. Low-voltage lighting is placed all around the space, on the fireplace, and around the kitchen island. We also installed Bromic heaters around the patio cover to make the space useable year-round.

We also built an elevated composite deck to hold the hot tub just steps away from the covered space, leaving the client with a perfect way to finish up a long day.

This space is large enough to allow for large gatherings and not feel cramped. With two living room areas, a pool table, a dining area, a large kitchen, and an open deck with a hot tub, why would you ever go inside?

Project of the Month: February 2023

February 8, 2023 Project of the Month

This home had a small patio cover off the corner of their home, and the client wanted a much larger space with an outdoor kitchen and a fire pit, as well as a place for a fountain. Their backyard was totally transformed into the perfect outdoor living space.

The new patio cover required TCP to remove and resize second-floor windows to build the roof with the correct pitch. The new windows are from RAM Windows, and they now have about 350 SF of covered space. The ceiling is RealTone Fineline American Nut Brown pre-stained tongue and groove. This space is equipped with DropShades, so they can turn it into a screened porch during the year when mosquitoes are bad. The flooring is Brazillian Slate from Thorntree. We installed Bromic heaters from Cunningham Gas to keep the space warm on chilly days and evenings.

The kitchen sits in the corner and has RCS appliances from Cunningham Gas. Including a 42” Cutlass Pro Grill, a side burner, a sink, storage, and a fridge. The home features Viscon White granite from Pomogranit Stones, and the kitchen is faced with black ledge stone natural stone veneer from Legends Architectural Stone. We also created a bonus counter area along the existing wall with storage and the perfect place to have a buffet.

We created a space for the custom firepit outside of the cover. The flooring under the firepit is also Brazillian Slate from Thorntree, and the firepit is faced with the same black ledge stone natural stone veneer from Legends to match the kitchen. For the rest of the yard, Brazillian Slate 2” thick pavers from Thorntree with rock separating them. A space was created for a fountain to install, and we added decorative landscaping to the fences to create the perfect retreat.

Project of the Month: January 2023

January 18, 2023 Project of the Month

With a typical two-story home with a breezeway connecting the home to the garage, this home needed shade. It had a small patio area without any cover to it. A pool was also installed as a part of their backyard renovation, and the transformation is unbelievable.

The entire new backyard living room is about 675 square feet. We added a fireplace on one end that helps create a privacy wall and an outdoor kitchen on the other. The middle area was left open for a large dining table.

The kitchen is outfitted with appliances from Cunningham Gas, Expressions Home Gallery, and S.T.E.D. The doors, drawers, dry pantry, and outdoor fridge are RCS brand from Cunningham. The griddle is from Expressions Home Gallery, and the under-counter ice maker is from S.T.E.D. All three heaters are Bromic Heaters from Cunningham Gas. The beautiful counter is Taj Mahal Leather from Omni Surfaces, and the kitchen is faced with Nordic Silver split face stone from Keystone Tile that matches the coping on the pool.

The flooring throughout the project is Flagstone White 16X32 porcelain tiles. Above the ceiling is Smokey Bourbon pre-stained tongue and groove Fineline by Woodtone. The homeowner provided the beautiful lighting seen on the patio.

The fireplace that anchors the living area is a gas fireplace with black lava rock from Republic Fire Bowls, and the mantle is reclaimed red oak wood from The Reclaimed Wood Shop. The fireplace is also faced with the same Nordic Silver split face stone from Keystone Tile, and the hearth and seat/knee walls are honed Ivory Slabs from Legends Architectural Stone. The brick wall was slurry painted to give the new space an entirely new look.

Project of the Month: December 2022

November 17, 2022 Project of the Month

This home had a large pool in the yard and a very small covered area, but the homeowner was looking to upgrade the entire yard and create their own paradise.

TCP added a new patio cover along the side that includes an outdoor kitchen and fireplace. We upgraded the existing cover as well as added a pergola and firepit.

We added about 1000 square feet of new stamped concrete to the backyard. The new covered outdoor living area is roughly 435 square feet with a high-vaulted ceiling and an open gable on the end and along the front side. The ceiling is English Porter pre-stained tongue and groove from Woodtone. The outdoor kitchen was placed at the end and is also an L-shape to allow plenty of room for the 40” grill, sink, outdoor-rated fridge, and storage. All appliances RCS are from Cunningham Gas, while the counter has a raised bar top for seating on the outside and is Coffee Brown Leather granite from Instyle Granite.

We placed the fireplace along the side to help provide privacy to the yard. It is a custom-built gas fireplace with an insert from Perfection Fireplace, and all of the stone caps are Chiffon Moire Ashlar Natural White from Apex Stone. The fascia of the fireplace, kitchen, and columns are Blanco Chopped from Rock Materials, and the mantle is custom-stained cedar.  On the far side of the pool, we added a gas firepit. All stones and caps match the rest of the project, and the black lava rock to fill it is from Republic Gas Bowls.

To upgrade the existing patio cover, we changed out the ceiling to match the new cover and hung new lighting. To extend their space along the home, a new pergola was added. At roughly 185 square feet, this structure has a Hercules Pergola Cover from Cover Your Pergola to keep everything nice and dry underneath.

This backyard is now truly a place to Live it Out.

Project of the Month: November 2022

October 28, 2022 Project of the Month

This home already had a wonderful pool in their backyard, but they wanted to add a patio cover with an outdoor kitchen and a small bathroom. The new structure would be off the garage and tie into the breezeway and existing patio cover to create a much larger L-shaped cover. The main challenge with this outdoor project was the tight space they had available to work with because of the existing pool.

The outdoor kitchen was built along the garage wall and includes appliances the homeowner supplied. The unique feature of the kitchen is the countertop pizza oven, which TCP created the custom masonry façade to hold. The stone used on the kitchen facia, vent hood cover and pizza oven façade is Nysa 3-size Z-pattern split face travertine mosaics from QDI Surfaces. The granite is Black Pearl from Daltile.

The flooring is Silver Versailles pattern travertine tiles also from QDI Surfaces. The homeowner was having issues with drainage, so TCP addressed that issue by adding additional drains in the driveway and at the back of the kitchen area.

The ceiling is finished with 1X6 V-groove pre-stained Scottish Ale by Woodtone, and we also upgraded the existing ceiling. TCP installed an electric screen shade in front of the kitchen and on the west end of the patio cover. This helps shade the areas during the late afternoons and early evenings when the sun is setting. Electric heaters were also installed in the seating area of the patio cover. Finally, we converted under-stair storage at the back of the garage into a half-bath with an exterior door.

This backyard is now everything the homeowner had dreamed of. From the open-air patio for dining or sunbathing to the new outdoor kitchen to the upgraded small existing cover, this is truly a backyard to be envious of.

Project of the Month: September

October 4, 2022 Project of the Month

This home had a small balcony, a covered area, and a large backyard. However, the family needed more outdoor living and desired an outdoor kitchen, fireplace, fire pit, and another smaller patio cover.

To add to the existing space, TCP had to rebuild the side of the balcony so a roof could be added. We removed the railing, and a half wall was built to attach the new covered area for the kitchen. A covered area of about 185 square feet was added to cover the new outdoor kitchen. The kitchen includes RCS appliances – a grill, fridge, storage, and a griddle. The space is faced with Trespa Lumber to match the front of the home, while the granite is River White from MSI International. The bar top island is perfect and can be used for dining or a buffet if needed. A custom lattice privacy wall was constructed to add texture to the space. The new columns are faced with Rockmount Rustic Gold dry stacked stone from MSI International.

TCP created an additional covered area off the side of the home with the same stone columns. In addition, we installed a new door where a window had previously been. This allowed easy access to the space from the inside.

All the ceiling finishes are American Nut Brown pre-stained tongue and groove, and the flooring is Botanica Teak Matte tile from MSI International. A total of 915 square feet of concrete was poured and covered with this beautiful flooring. In addition, a free-standing fire pit was built between the two spaces.

Under the balcony, TCP did a total makeover. Including the ceiling refinish, we also added a gas fireplace using the same stone as the columns. The lattice work privacy wall extended along this section as well.

This backyard went from boring to breathtaking, giving the homeowner a great way to live outdoors.

Project of the Month: August 2022

September 15, 2022 Project of the Month

The homeowner wanted an outdoor space that complemented their contemporary style home. Their yard is small and has a pool, so TCP was creative in maximizing what could be done for them.

The covered patio is around 240 SF and has a side wall tie-in. The roof is a flat standing, seam metal roof with a steel beam and post. The ceiling is Real tone fine line pre-stained tongue and groove in Smokey Bourbon. This outdoor space is simple with the clean lines the homeowner wanted. The stucco wall at the end provides privacy from the neighbors and the perfect place to mount the TV.

GRILLING STATION

What else is needed? A small grill and counter area are all that’s required to cook up a delicious meal to eat on the patio. The counter area is Ceasarstone from Omni Surfaces, and the grill is RCS.

The decking is 1X6 Azek premium Coastline decking. It has one step down to the yard and has low-voltage step lights. The deck wraps around the pool and along the side of the home.

This space gives the homeowner their own little resort – an outdoor space to sit, relax and enjoy life.

Project of the Month: June 2022

September 14, 2022 Project of the Month

This home already had a beautiful pool and a fully landscaped backyard, but they desired an outdoor living room accenting the space. Knowing this, the back side of the pool became the perfect place to create and build an outdoor living area.

This freestanding pool house is about 375 SF and has an outdoor kitchen, double-sided fireplace, a living area, and a bartop counter for dining. The space also features a gable roof and a vaulted ceiling. We used a stained tongue and groove with cedar beams. The columns are wrapped in Hardie and painted with stone bases that match the kitchen fascia and the fireplace. All of the stone complements the pool coping to make a more cohesive outdoor living space. The flooring is a wide, plank-stamped concrete.

We also installed two large fans to create a nice breeze on those hot summer days. To optimize the backyard space, we built a double-sided fireplace with seating on the backside, great for large gatherings. Along with the custom-built fireplace, we installed Bromic Platinum heaters. A perfect way to keep the outdoors nice and cozy on those chilly days and nights.

This kitchen has an RCS grill, storage area, trash drawer, and an outdoor-rated fridge. The counter is granite and provides plenty of space to prep and serve. Lights were hung over the counter, bringing the perfect decorative touch to the outdoor space.
