Love Is In The Air

February 12, 2016 Outdoor Living

Valentine’s Day is all about love and spending time with your special someone. The typical Valentine’s date usually involves dinner out but restaurants are so crowded and busy that a romantic evening is often difficult to achieve with all the hustle and bustle. Imagine spending a relaxing romantic evening at home in your Texas Custom Patios outdoor living space and avoiding all the crowds and traffic. If you like the idea of spending February 14 on your patio, read on for some great ideas for making the night more romantic than ever.

Set the Mood

Lighting really helps to set the mood for a romantic evening. The trick is achieving a soft warm glow without it being too bright or too dark. Ceiling lights on dimmers are an obvious first choice. You can also add in some candle light or hang string lights for a great romantic atmosphere. Don’t be afraid to go all out with the candles… you can pick up hundreds of tea lights for just a couple of dollars. Don’t forget about the cozy outdoor fireplace. You’ll love the light and warmth while you sit close to each other.

Set the Table

Untitled designWhat’s on the Valentine’s day menu? Be sure to know your partner’s likes and dislikes. You may want to steer the menu towards lighter foods that don’t leave you feeling overly full. Opt for lightly seasoned vegetables and smaller portions of grilled meats. Lighter meats like pork or chicken don’t feel as heavy as red meats typically do. If you do choose red meat, go for the filet mignon or tenderloin over a big sirloin or t-bone.  Our “Recipes of the Month” are perfect for any palette … see recipes for Grilled Pizza and Chocolate Fondue here!

Set the Conversation

Be prepared for your romantic time together with good questions to ask. It’s amazing how couples who have been together for many years can still learn new things about each other as a result of a few well thought out questions. Untitled design-2You may want to spend some time thinking about some questions you want to ask. Obviously you’ll want to avoid touchy subjects, instead focus on questions that will allow you to talk about your future and dreams. If you need help you can search online for romantic questions. The results will certainly range from mild to spicy and you’ll want to choose ones that are best for your relationship. You may even write them out on pieces of paper and take turns asking each other.

Recipes of the Month: Grilled Pizza and Chocolate Fondue

February 12, 2016 Outdoor Cooking

Sounds amazingly delicious, right?  For you two lovebirds we are grilling up your favorite pizza, sipping some champagne and dipping your most-loved sweets in chocolate!  The weather is supposed to be gorgeous in Texas this weekend, so a date night on the patio might just be perfect!

Let’s get  cookin’ ..

Grilled Pizza

Pizza recipe

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon white sugar

1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons cornmeal for dusting

3/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)

Directions

  1. Proof yeast in warm water.
  2. In separate bowl place flour, salt, sugar, and oil. Make a well in the center and place yeast/warm water mixture in. Mix thoroughly until consistency of an elastic ball. Allow to rise 1 1/2 hours.
  3. Flour surface and roll out 1/2 of the dough. Rub with cornmeal. Sprinkle with your favorite toppings.
  4. Spray grill with cooking spray. Grill dough about 5 minutes or until toppings are melted. Repeat with second piece of dough.

Chocolate Fondue

Chocolate Fondue

Ingredients

12 ounces of milk or dark chocolate (chips or roughly chopped if from a block)

1 cup (8 ounces) of heavy whipping cream

A pinch of salt

Dip-ables such as: strawberries, banana pieces cut into 1-inch pieces, pound cake, biscotti

Directions

1 Heat the cream over medium heat in a small saucepan until tiny bubbles show and begins to lightly and slowly simmer.

2 Remove from heat, add the chocolate, and whisk until smooth and fully incorporated.

3 Immediately transfer to a fondue pot heated at low or with a low flame, or serve straight from the pot.

Arrange the dip-ables on a platter or plates around the chocolate pot. Use a fondue fork, bamboo skewer, seafood fork, or salad fork to dip the fruit pieces and other dippables into the hot melted cream chocolate mixture. Eat immediately.

If the fondue begins to feel a little stiff, add a tablespoon of heavy cream and stir. It will help it go a little longer. Eventually, it will cook down though and you may need to start a new pot.

Now cheers with your favorite champagne to a wonderful evening, a beautiful view and to someone you love.

We would definitely recommend Texas Custom Patios. Ryan and the crew that works with him were very efficient and immaculate. Ryan let us know each day what steps would be taken during the process building our pergola for our patio. From the construction, staining, and installing the electrical outlets and fans. Valentine is a true visionary with his ideas and construction. Everyone is truly impressed with the job they did.
